Ratan Tata keeps his promise..Better late than never :)

VIDEO Ultra cheap Tata NANO Launch in Mumbai

Recession is here to stay but Ratan Tata kept his promise when he formally launched the Nano in Mumbai. It’s indeed a great moment for Tata’s and India as a nation. It’s just not a launch of a car but is a launch of a million possibilities, Indian engineering, Indian ingenuity and finally, a vehicle for Indian aspirations.

Till now India was thought to be a country where labour was cheap and was considered to be an excellent place for offshoring but with this launch all this is about to change. Indians just don’t dream they realize their dreams too :) .From the time Ratan Tata announced that his company would be coming up with a 1 lakh car and termed it as people’s car there have been many hurdles that he had to go through. First many nations ridiculed the concept when they questioned the expertise that would be needed to realize such a thing. Secondly when Tata set up their plant in Singur(West Bengal) they had reached a dead end as Mamata banerjee was against the project and got farmers behind her to make her case strong. WB loss was Gujarat’s gain and Tata had to relocate their plant which cost them dearly in terms of money that they spent in setting up the Singur plant. And then there was the recession that hit most businesses very hard. But after all these hurdles the car was launched 5 months late. When asked how long would one have to wait for the car after booking it,Ratan tata said: “It’s like waiting for a beautiful woman. If the wait is too long, the woman may get too fat or not be as beautiful. . . ,” sending the entire gathering into raptures.

There will be three versions – the base version, which is the one we promised to the people of India and two upper tier versions,” Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata told a news conference. The higher-end versions would have airconditioning, power brakes and power windows, among others. he bookings will commence on April 9 and will go on till April 25. The car will be sold to the first 100,000 buyers at a price to be announced later. The delivery of the first lot of Nano cars will begin in early-July.

State Bank of India has partnered with TATA for collection of bookings in 850 cities. The car can be booked by just paying Rs 2,999 upfront while the rest can be secured by way of loan. The first 1-lakh customers will be selected by draw of lots from the bookings. The customers who wait for more than one-year will be paid 8.5 per cent interest and those beyond two-years will be paid 8.75 per cent.

So what are you waiting for?? Get your hands on this cute little Nano..Bookings start 9th April
