It is not often that a world class spinner who has the world record for the most number of wickets is left out of the team. Chennai Super kings didn’t make that blunder again and it paid immediate dividends and Murali picked up the man of the match award. It was one way traffic from ball one…Hayden showed that he has not lost one bit of his batting prowess despite retiring from international cricket. It was a blazing knock from him which set the Bangalore Royal challengers on the back foot and they couldn’t recover from it though they pulled it back a little bit.
What was interesting to see was the 100 run partnership in just 10 overs between Hayden and parthiv patel which set up the platform for a big score. It was Peterson who finally broke the partnership when he bowled parthiv patel. Immediately after that Hayden was run out by an outstanding throw from Dravid. 2 quick wickets slowed the run rate and finally they could manage only 179 when they could have easily got 200 but nevertheless 179 was the highest score on this ground.
Earlier in the day it was surprising that Royal challengers brought back Kallis in place of Ryder who performed well with the ball. Kallis went for plenty in his 2 overs, 28 to be precise but he shined briefly in batting but he couldn’t stay long which was necessary when chasing such a big score. Peterson the danger man failed for the second time and he went for a duck lbw to murali. Dravid was running out of partners and he was the last man out with the innings folding up at just 87 in 15.1 overs. Click here for scorecard
With this win, Super kings have opened their account and that has changed the standings a little bit with Chennai jumping to second spot and Bangalore to 5th spot. As mentioned earlier in my previous posts, spin is going to play a big role in this IPL with 3 man of the match awards for spinners in 5 matches.
