I am becoming a great fan of these low scoring contests. They are much more interesting than seeing one sided games where one team puts up a huge score and the other team just succumbs. Tonight’s match between Mumbai Indians and Kings 11 Punjab was one of those thrilling low scoring contests. Kings 11 Punjab batted first and again got off to a poor start loosing both their openers for just 18 on the scoreboard. Yuvraj Singh failed yet again and it was left to Sangakarra the savior of the kings 11 who once again was the only batsmen who looked like getting runs but even his contribution in the end was not enough to get the kings 11 past 119 in their 20 overs. Sachin rotated his bowlers well with 7 of them rolling their arm over. Mallinga was again at his deadly best with 2 wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs..How the hell does he manage to get those Yorkers bang on target and with such pace.

While all were in favour of Mumbai Indians Winning this match comfortably somewhere in mind i had this doubt that they wouldn’t make it this time. I was right in the end. The inning started of in the worst fashion that they could have ever imagined with Jayasurya getting out for a duck and Sachin for 1.Dhawan was the next man .With wickets falling frequently the Indians were always doing the catch up job. Duminy scored a 50 but he left it too late and Mumbai Indians lost by 3 runs. Surely this is the best match played so far in this season of IPL. For Mumbai, it was a rude wake-up call, and they will now seriously have to address a batting order too reliant on the openers. Click here for the complete scorecard.

Man of the Match: Sangakarra

The earlier Match took place between Royal challengers and Kolkata Knight riders. Both the teams were in need of a win and the challengers proved to be the better team marginally though. Mcullum won the toss and elected to bat. Mendis was left out of the team and Goswami and Manish pandey were in for Bangalore. When the chips are down the captain shows the way and Peiterson surely showed how to do it. He bowled the first over and guess what he got Mccullum caught in the point of the very first ball. Gayle and Hodge tried to string a partnership and they succeeded for a while before hodge got out. Gayle too got out after making 40.But it was the replacement for mendis, Morne van Wyk who carried the batting along and helped the knight riders get to 139 a pretty decent score.

Yet again there was a new opening pair for the challengers but for a change this time they clicked. Goswami playing in his first match made 43 before getting out .The score was 69/1 after 11.They looked well on track to reach the target but lost their way in the middle before a fine innings from Boucher in the end got them past the target with 1 ball to spare. At last you could see a smile on kevin peiterson’s face. He will be leaving the IPL to play for his country on a winning note 🙂 ..Click here for the scorecard
