It was a match which Kings 11 had to win if they had to keep their semifinals hopes alive and they just about managed to do that thanks to Irfan Pathan’s towering sixes in the end. DareDevils it seems were a little complacent given the fact that they are very much through to the semifinals. Why would anyone like to tamper with the winning combination? 2 changes were made to the team and significant ones too.. Warner and Nannes were replaced by Mahroof and Vettori. Yuvraj won the toss and decided to field first. That didnt make Sehwag unhappy as he was going to bat anyway. Delhi got back their regular opening partners but Lee was at his best. His dismissal of Sehwag was a cleverly thought out one. He cramped him up for space and then he got one to slide leg side and Sehwag edged it to the wicket keeper. Gambhir has been out of sorts this IPL and the last thing that he wanted was a runout. A very good throw from Mota brought and end to his innings which lasted for just 11 balls. Dilshan and AB got together. It was to be seen if they could rescue Delhi yet again but Sreesanth didn’t let that happen. Sreesanth/Yuvraj Singh Combination got those 2 crucial wickets. Manhas and Kathik had to rebuild the innings once again and they were successful to a certain extent when they got the score past 100 in the 15th over but then they lost 5 wickets for just 20 runs in 5 overs and Delhi for the first time in the tournament has posted a score of 120 or less..
Kings 11 got off to a good start with 22 on the board in the first 3 overs. Mahroof was given the ball and he struck with the first ball in this IPL..Katich edged one to the keeper. Nehra bowled a superb maiden which included a wicket of sohal who gifted his wicket really by going accross too much and getting bowled. It could have been worse for the Kings had Gambhir snatched one of Yuvraj but he missed a dolly. Gambhir was removed from the slips and the most agile fielder in the team AB was put in his position and he was superb in sending back Pomersbach who edged one of Mahroof. With 3 down for just 35 on the board, Yuvraj and Sangakarra played sensibly for the next 11 overs until Yuvraj hit one straight at Sehwag which should have been really dispatched to the boundary. It was getting a bit close with 30 runs needed of the last 3 overs and Irfan Pathan struck 2 wonderful blows of Sangwan to get it down to 14 of 12 balls. Mahroof bowled the 19th over and he was not disciplined as he sent down 2 wides and he gave away 12 runs in the over. He also bowled 3 noballs in his initial over. Irfan hit the winning boundary which meant the Kings 11 were still in the hunt for the semifinal berth. ClickHere for the Scorecard
