Lightening does not strike the same place twice they say but it almost did at the Wanderer’s. It was again turning out to be a Rohit Sharma special which would probably get the Chargers home and unfortunately he couldn’t. It was a repeat of the match against the KKR and this time the task was even steeper requiring 43 from 18 balls. Surprisingly Yuvraj Singh got Mota to bowl the 17th over and Sharma took him on and smashed 2 6’s and a 4 of him to bring the target down to 25 from 12 balls. Bret lee came onto bowl the 19th and what an over yet again. Sharma smashed a 6 and a 4 of him leaving 11 runs from the last over. Pathan was given the ball and Sharma got 2 runs of the first ball and then a 4 meant 5 runs were needed of 4 balls. A wide of the next ball meant the chargers needed run a ball to get through and Sharma tried a big shot and was bowled. That brought RP and he wasted a ball and got out of the 2nd ball. That left 4 runs of the last ball. Ryan Harris tried hard but could only manage 2. Kings 11 had won the match by a run.

Set a modest target of 135, the Chargers got to a great start with 34 on the board in 4 overs. The fast bowlers were going for runs and it was a clever bowling change to bring on Powar. He struck twice. First it was Gilchrist who was silly to swing his bat even before the ball landed and he was easily stumped. Then Suman came and perished first ball trying an expansive stroke the first ball and was bowled. Gibbs and Symonds came together and got the score past 70 in the 11th over. Gibbs was brilliantly caught by Chawla of Yuvraj at point. Yuraj came onto bowl his 2nd over. He got Symonds stumped by Sangakarra, not a clean one though. He first knocked the bail off with his left hand and then he removed the other bail with the ball in the hand. Yuvraj was on a hattrick but no one knew it. Venugopal Rao was bowled by Yuvraj and got his revenge back as Venugopal Rao had him bowled in their innings. It was left to Rohti Sharma again and it was getting a bit tough with the rate going above 12 but yet again he brought the chargers close to victory but sadly this time he couldn’t get them over the line which was so very disappointing. Earlier Gilchrist won the toss and elected to field again and Kings 11 could only manage 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Sangakkara rescued the innings which was going nowhere as he got 56 of 43 balls.ClickHere for the scorecard.

The second match was between Delhi and Rajasthan. Sehwag decided to bat again despite having lost the last match batting first and getting only 120. Delhi started disastrously as usual with both the openers back in the hut with just 15 on the board. It was again left to AB and Dilshan to repair the innings who did exactly that and got the score past 100 in the 16th over. Dilshan got out and Delhi needed something special if they had to get close to 140. AB played a gem of an innings when he hit 6 and a 4 of Munaf Patel in the 19th over and Karthik was equal to the task with one 6 an da 4 of the same over.Warne bowled the  final over and gave away 10 runs which meant the Royals had to chase 151.

The Royals got off to a disastrous start when both their openers were out for almost nothing on the score. Greame Smith got a golden duck and Quiney got 6.Ojha perished further denting the Royals chances of making a match out of this. Jadeja and Botha got the score to 79 before Salvi got him and then it was wickets falling regularly. Munaf Patel for a change hit some good shots and now has a record for this IPL, the highest score(23) by an eleventh man. Clickhere for the scorecard.
