It was a game which Mumbai had to win if they wanted to entertain any chances to stay in this competition but it was the same old story again. Apart from the one game against Kolkata Knight Riders the Mumbai Batting has come a cropper and they have failed to chase low scores many a time. Jayasurya was left out for Luke Ronchi and Sachin decided not to open .So Mumbai Indians were trying something different with a new opening pair but it was disaster for them with both of them getting out in the 1st over. First it was Luke Ronchi who was brilliantly runout by Warner and then Duminy edged one to the wicketkeeper. This is the 3rd instance that the openers have made ducks in this IPL. Sachin came in at 4th and was batting very cautiously but when he was just looking good to take on the bowlers he was brilliantly run out but Karthik. Sachin inside edged one which narrowly missed the stumps and Sachin took few steps forward but Karthik showed presence of mind and threw the ball at the stumps.Sachin was confident that he had reached his ground but he was well short. It was a big dent to the Mumbai Indians. There was not much to say about the innings which just meandered along and they managed just 115 all out in 20 overs. Bravo was the top scorer with 35.
It was always going to be an easy chase for the Delhi boys with the kind of form their batsmen are in. Warner and Gambhir gave them a steady start. They reached 42 in 8 overs but then Warner was stumped of duminy and the very next over Harbhajan got Gambhir to put the breaks on the scoring rate. It was 52/2 at the half way mark. Dilshan and AB got together and they could only manage 22 runs in the next 5 overs with Harbhajan and Duminy bowling excellent line. Both of them bowled out their 4 overs. 42 were needed of 30 balls. Sachin decided to bowl himself and it turned out to be a big over (19 runs) and all the pressure that was created by the spinners was released by this one over. Dilshan was dismissed in the last but one over but Delhi won by 7 wickets. AB remained unbeaten on 50 . Click here for scorecard.
