This has to be the best match of this IPL season. We have had a match involving a super over and so many low scoring close contests but this one was different .It was a high scoring thriller and you could hardly choose between the two teams in the end but as there has to be a looser and a winner in every game, the Super Kings held their nerves in the end and emerged victorious.

Kings 11 were set a very stiff target of 187 in 18 overs. Any team that wishes to chase such a target would love to have a good start but that was not to be as Sohal Singh was bowled of the second ball. Katich on the other side hit some crisp shots but the Kings 11 needed to move on as the asking rate was climbing up all the time and Katich showed the way by hitting 3 consecutive 6’s of Goni in the 4th over to keep the asking rate to manageable levels but on the other side Karan Goel was not moving that well with just 14 of 20 when he got out to Jakati who again got a wicket of his first over. In came the captain Yuvraj and they needed something special from him if Kings 11 were to make a match out of this and he started of well. He took on Murali and hit a 6 of him. He tried to do that again and miscued one which Gony couldn’t hold on to and the worse part it went for 4 valuable runs. Yuvraj made sure that he would make the super kings pay for this lapse on the field. Katich reached to his 50 in just 24 balls but the very next ball that he faced he got out to Balaji of his first over which he should have deposited on the other side of the fence but couldn’t manage. In came Jayawardne and boy what shots he began to play .He matched yuvraj shot by shot and sometimes was even better than Yuvraj . The Kings 11 were keeping the asking rate below 12 until the 14th over. Dhoni made a clever bowling change giving the ball to Raina as his fast bowlers had gone for plenty and it worked .He gave only 4 runs away and the next over from Balaji was also very economical but what was worse for kings 11 was that Raina gave away 4 again in his 2nd over virtually ending the kings 11 hopes who required 24 of the last 6 balls. Jayawardne started off with a boundary but that was not going to be enough and Balaji ensured that the Kings 11 don’t cross the finish line this time. It was surely a very brave chase but in the end SuperKings proved to be the real Kings. Though Chennai won the game it has to be said that their fielding standards have been very poor with 3 drop catches and 1 runout chance missed in the match. They have been getting away because they have been recording big scores but a day will come when their batting fails and their fielding could be the difference between a win and a loss.

Earlier Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. Super Kings had a new opening pair in Badrinath and Hayden but Badrinath was caught by the third man of the very first ball but that didn’t hamper the super kings from playing their shots. Hayden was as usual in cracking form and Raina complemented him very well until the 10th over when Raina got out to Chawla. Before this happened Hayden got a life when Sangakaara missed an easy stumping chance which proved to be very costly in the end. Rain also disrupted the play and the game was reduced to 18 overs a side. Strategic timeout didn’t prove to be a hindrance to the superkings as Dhoni and Hayden were playing their shots and were depositing the ball in the stands regularly. 100 runs came of the last 50 balls with Hayden going berserk. At one stage it looked like Hayden would get a century but he was out for 90 of Sreesanth of whose bowling he struck 3 6’s in the same over. Dhoni too powered to his 2nd 50 in just 26 balls. They ended up with 185 in 18 and the target was revised to 187 courtesy D/L Method. ClickHere for the complete scorecard.

Man of the Match: Mathew Hayden

The earlier match was between the 2 royals. Royal Challengers lost the toss and were put into bat by Shane Warne and his bowlers responded to his call. It was a pathetic display by the royal challengers as they could only manage 105 in their allotted 20 overs and they were bowled out too in exactly 120 balls. The highest score recorded was 17 by Uthappa . Amit singh took 4 and Ravinder Jadeja took 3 to destroy the challengers.

A target of 106 is never going to be a tough one in T20 and the Royals achieved it with 5 overs to spare and only 3 wickets down. Nama Ojha again came good wit h his 2nd 50 of the IPL of 38 balls. Click Here for the complete scorecard
