Mumbai Indians Zoomed to the top of the IPL Standings for the first time ever in IPL as they dismantled Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets keeping their unbeaten streak against KKR intact after five clashes. Mumbai bowlers did well to restrict the Knight Riders to 155 and then Sachin and Co chased down the score with 9 balls to spare.
Mumbai Indians innings
Shikhar Dawan replaced Jayasurya at the top to give Mumbai Indians a solid start along with Sachin who has been in tremendous touch all this season. The opening-wicket partnership yielded 61 runs off just 41 balls, laying a solid foundation for the batsmen to follow. Murali Kartik was brought on in the 7th over and he got the first breakthrough when Dhawan was caught by Ganguly at short midwicket. Saurabh Tiwary got a promotion as he joined the party with a huge six off Angelo Matthews and then three boundaries off Gayle. However, Ganguly took a spectacular catch to send back Tiwary to the pavilion. Tendulkar reached his fifth IPL fifty, smashing Ishant to the midwicket fence. Satish stuck around with Sachin to ensure that Mumabi reached the target without any more hassles. PHOTOS
Knight Riders Innings
Earlier Ganguly won the toss and decided to bat first. Gayle replaced Hodge in the team. Gayle and Ganguly got KKR off to a very steady start and didn’t lose a wicket in the first 10 overs but they could only manage 67 runs. Thus a lot of credit goes to the Mumbai Indians who didn’t allow KKR to break free even though they couldn’t break the opening pair. Gayle was not the in his usual belligerent mood as his 60 ball knock yielded only 75 runs which included 7 boundaries and 2 maximums. Ganguly was bowled by a beauty from Harbhajan which brought Owaish shah to the crease. Gayle and Shah partnership yielded 82 runs in just 50 balls which helped Kolkata to post 155 which is the highest that they have scored against Mumbai Indians but in the end it was not enough. PHOTOS
