Rajasthan Royals finally managed to open their account in the IPL when they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 runs. Having lost 3 matches in a row, Shane Warne couldn’t have asked for a better performance from his boys. Although it has to be said that it was a intent-less chase from Kolkata as they gift wrapped the game for the royals.
Set to chase 169 on a slow wicket KKR never got going. Yusuf Pathan who failed with the bat struck the early blow when he bowled Tiwary. In a stiff chase it’s good to have wickets in hand but it’s a crime to leave too much for too late and SRK’s side paid the price for it. Pujara and Hodge could only manage 65 in 10 overs. Hodge’s approach was strange, considering that players like Angelo Mathews and Owais Shah were cooling their heels in the dressing room. He never tried to attack the bowlers on a wicket which aided the slow bowlers. Trivedi was superb mixing up his deliveries and not allowing the batsmen to get away. Ganguly struggled to get going as his opponent Shane Warne relied heavily on spin and Yusuf pathan didn’t disappoint with his 2 for 23 in his 4 overs. PHOTOS

Having won the toss Shane Warne decided to bat. However they got off to a bad start as Michael Lumb was trapped plumb in front off the first ball from Ashok Dinda. Faiz Fazal making his debut impressed with his elegant strokeplay as he smashed 6 boundaries in his 31.Ojha gave him good company, but the duo failed to carry on, handing the Kolkata bowlers the advantage. Yusuf pathan failed for the 3rd time but Jhunjhunwala played a sensible knock. It was a slow wicket and the criwd had to wait till the last over to see the DLF maximum. Voges’ late surge saw the royals get to a decent total. PHOTOS
