The nature of T20 is such that even 1 or 2 overs can change the fortune of a team and today there was only one man who stood in the way of Deccan Chargers from potentially topping the table. Bhaji, the Turbanator first came up trumps with the bat when he fired Mumbai Indians to a defendable total with a quickfire 49 from just 18 balls and then he needed only 2 balls to send back Gilchrist dealing a big blow to the Chargers chase and in the end Mumbai Indians won the match easily by 41 runs. As a result of this win the Indians are sitting pretty at the top of the table with 10 points from 6 games. Harbhajan sizzled with both bat and ball but that didn’t stop the match referee from handing out a $15000 fine for sledging.
Deccan Chargers Innings
After having played a gem of an innings, Harbhajan struck a deadly blow in the first over of the innings as Sachin took a low catch in the slips to send back the danger man Gilly. Herschelle Gibbs looked good for a brief period but he didn’t last long, swatting a full toss from Zaheer Khan to cover point. Once Symonds was out trying to slash a short one from Lasith Malinga, it was almost game over for DC. Rohit Sharma tried to keep the hopes alive but didn’t receive any support at the other end. If the batting exploits were not enough Harbhajan proved to be tough with the ball too as he got 3 crucial wickets. The last nail in the coffin was when Zaheer bowled a superb Yorker to send back Rohit for a well made 45. The Chargers failed to bat out the entire 20 overs as they folded up in 17.4 overs. PHOTOS
Mumbai Indians Innings
Gilchrist won the toss and put the Mumbai Indians into bat. Dhawan who looked so good in the game against Chennai struggled against Kemer Roach who was playing his first game tonight. Gilly chose to open with Jaskaran Singh alongside Roach and he didn’t disappoint as he fired an in swinging Yorker which caught Dhawan plumb in front. It looked all good for Mumbai Indians with Tendulkar and Dwayne Bravo looking in roaring form as they reached 63 in 7 overs. But that all changed when RP who has been out of sorts this season took 2 wickets to send back Bravo and Tiwary. Mumbai looked in a spot of bother when Ojha removed Rayudu and satish. It looked all over for Mumbai Indians as Pollard got out for 1. While wickets were falling on end Sachin tried to keep the scoreboard moving and reached his 4th 50 this season. Mumbai Indians needed him to stay till the end if they had to reach a decent target but RP got Sachin to edge one to Gilly. The score was 120/7 in 17. It was Deccan who had held all the cards until now but then Harbhajan got into the act and smashed 49 of 18 balls which included 8 4’s and 2 6’s. 52 runs came of the last 3 propelling Mumbai Indians to 172.
