Deccan snatches a thriller from Kings XI

Rohit Sharma plays a shotMatch 51: Deccan Chargers pulled off a thriller against Kings XI winning their 4th consecutive game by virtue of which they are still in contention for that all important semi final berth. Put in to bat at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharmashala, Kings XI posted 174 on a wicket which had more grass than all the pitches combined in India. Chargers two star overseas batsmen Gilchrist and Symonds didn’t do much, but once again the local talent did it for them. Suman and Rohit’s timely partnership of 66 in 39 balls got them past the line. If you had to name a batsman who can be graceful yet lethal it has to Rohit Sharma who made a brilliant 68 from 38 and ensured that Chargers didn’t choke this time (referring to the game against Rajasthan)

Chasing 175, the Chargers didn’t get off to an auspicious start with Adam once again failing to lead from the front. Suman and Mishra struggled to get the score moving and could only manage 45 runs in the powerplay. Punjab was lucky to get Monish Mishra thanks to a howler from umpire Saheba. That brought Mr Reliable Rohit Sharma and find of the season T Suman together. They kept the required rate under check with their 66 run stand which saw some clean hitting from Suman and Sharma. When Suman got out in the 14th over Chargers needed only 55 runs from 41 balls. However With Symonds bowled trying to hit Theron out of the park gave a slimmer of hope to the Kings but Rohit was not going to repeat the same mistake that he had committed against the Royals. He hit some lusty blows towards the end to win the game with 5 balls to spare. PHOTOS

Gilchrist won the toss and decided to put the Kings into bat not sure of how the wicket would play as this was the first International game at Dharmashala which is situated nearly 4,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar range that make it one of the most beautiful grounds in the world. Marsha came in for injured lee and he was dismissed for a golden duck in the first over from Harris. Sangakkara and Mahela set up a perfect platform getting 85 runs in 61 balls. However an unwise reverse sweep from Sangakkara after getting to his 50 gave Rahul Sharma a wicket in his first over. Kings XI reached 98/2 in 15 overs. Deccan bowlers have gained the reputation of being worst at death and tonight they went for 76 runs in the last 5. Jayawardene who was slow to begin with stepped on the gas in the last 5 smashing 58 runs in 20 balls and almost got the second century of the season. PHOTOS
