Match 46: Pressure brings out the best from the Chargers and Bangalore Royal Challengers were at the receiving end tonight. Dale Steyn rocked the chargers early but the Chargers managed to put up a decent total(151) which should have been a cake walk for the power-packed batting line-upand it was going the Challengers way but a superb penultimate over, bowled by Harmeet Singh (two for 24), helped Deccan pouch the game. This game just goes to show that you don’t have to always outclass a team in order to win a T20 match but sometimes it is those crucial little moments that really matter in the end.
Royal Challengers Innings
Chasing a modest total of 152, the Challengers got off to a bad start with Pandey departing for a Golden Duck. Dravid however looked in sublime touch and was timing the ball crisply hitting boundaries at will but on the other hand, Jacques Kallis struggled for timing. The Challengers were on course having made 72 in the first 10 thanks to Dravid but once he was dismissed one short of his fifty, the game turned on its head as the Chargers were all over the Bangalore boys. Kallis was dismissed for a laborious 37 ball 27.Ross Taylor, Virat Kohli and Cameron White departed in quick succession and with wickets falling the required rate was sky rocketing and it was left to Uthappa to bring them on track and he almost did it by smashing Ryan Harris for 21 runs in the 18th over. However Harmeet’s slower delivery cleaned him up which ended all the hopes for the Challengers and they fell short by 14 runs. PHOTOS
Deccan Chargers Innings
Anil Kumble’s decision to bowl first reaped rich dividends early as a stunning burst from Dale Steyn reduced the Chargers to 14/3 in the 3rd over. However Rohit Sharma (51 off 46) and Monish Mishra (41 off 30) put on 82 runs for the fourth wicket. While Mishra dealt in boundaries, Sharma looked happy to settle with boundaries. Once Mishra departed Symonds came in and was looking good to explode but Kumble sent him back in the 18th over and Sharma was dismissed off the first ball of 19th over which in the end made a difference of 10-15 runs to what Deccan finally managed to hit.
