Deccan Chargers were blown away by a superb innings from Dada at his home ground Eden gardens. The 2 captains have had a rough time this season but today Ganguly was better than his counterpart Gilchrist who failed with the bat. Ganguly’s 54 ball 88 powered KKR to a solid total of 181 which the Chargers failed to chase down. This is the 3rd consecutive loss for the chargers after having won 3 in a row.
Deccan Chargers Innings
Ganguly’s decision to open with Parmar backfired as Gibbs smashed the off-spinner parmar for 3 boundaries and then struck a huge 6 off Bond. Gilchrist had only faced 1 ball out of the 12 balls bowled and when he got the strike he smashed 2 back to back 4’s of Agarkar but yet again he failed to carry on as he was caught by Pujara at deep midwicket. Ganguly again took a chance to go with Murali Karthik in the last over of the power play. The over went for 13 runs as Mishra used his feet well to get down to the pitch of the ball and smash them over the infield. The chargers had raced to 75/1 at the end of 8 overs. Mishra’s breezy 29 came to end when he tried to hit Mathews out of the ground. Murali Kartik and Angelo Mathews were very economical, picking up one wicket each, drying up Deccan’s run chase. Symonds looked out of sorts hiting only 15 out of 15 before he managed to get 3 boundaries in the 14th over from Parmar. The required rate had shot up to 11 and Bond was back in the 15th and he struck a telling blow when Gibbs tried to send a slower ball out of the part but gave an easy catch to Hussey. Karthik then bowled Rohit for 2. It was now left to Symonds but he too could not get going. Mathews and Agarkar bowled some tight overs as a result of which the Chargers needed 40 from the last 2. Symonds smashed a 4 of the first ball but Bond bowled 4 dot balls after that to end the hopes for the Chargers. PHOTOS
Kolkata Knight Riders Innings
Ganguly won the toss and decided to bat. The Knight riders have been guilty of losing too many wickets too soon and also not going hard in their opening overs. Gayle once again failed as Symonds got him in the 3rd over. Pujara played some elegant shots before he spooned an easy catch to Ojha to give Symonds his 2nd wicket. Tiwary who has been the inform batsmen for KKR failed today as he dragged a ball from ojha onto his stumps. Ganguly from the other end kept the scoreboard moving. KKR reached 80/3 in 10 overs. Hussey and Ganguly got together and ensured that they didn’t lose any more wickets. Ganguly was on fire when he smashed Ojha for 3 maximums in the 17th over before he was caught by Sharma when he tried to hit the 4th one out of the park. He hit 5 6’s and 9 4’s in his 54 ball 88. Jaskaran got Hussey and Mathews in the 19th over. KKR got 65 runs in the last 5 overs to get to a health total of 181.
