It was a match between two teams, whose intentions were completely different. Kings XI were playing for PRIDE and the Royals were playing for the PRIZE. Forget about pride the Kings XI were thrashed by Rajasthan Royals who were playing their first match at their home ground Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Set to chase a modest 157 the Royals made a mockery of the target by getting the runs with 5 overs to spare.
Rajasthan Royals Innings
It was always going to be tough for the Kings XI to restrict the royals but they never expected it to be the way it turned out to be. Michael lumb got them off to a flier as he crashed 2 boundaries an over in the first 3 and then he smashed Juan Theron’s opening over for 20 runs. Naman Ojha was the silent partner letting Lumb have most of the strike. It took only 9 overs for the Royals to reach the century mark and lumb was the major contributor with 83 runs in half the number of balls which included 16 hits to the fence and 2 maximums. Against the run of play Bopara got lumb to mishit a slower one to Chawla. Lumb’s wicket didn’t slow the Royals down as the next batsman was Yusuf who along with Ojha finished the job in 15 overs. Kings XI Punjab
Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat and the openers got them to a great start with Bisla hitting boundaries at will but Watson got him out with a sharp bouncer in the 4th over. The centurion of the last match Mahela then started hitting the big shots but his partner Sangakkkara couldn’t do much before he perished off the first bal after the powerplay. Punjab cruised to a 110/2 inside 11 overs thanks to Mahela Jayawardene and Yuvraj Singh. But as it always happens in the game of cricket the 2 set batsmen got out in quick succession. Rajasthan’s slow bowlers applied the brakes as Kings XI only managed 44 runs in the final 9 overs. PHOTOS
