The worst fielding effort in this IPL and a sparkling cameo from Uthappa cost Kings XI the match against Bangalore Royal Challengers. Kings XI were in control for most part of the match but then in T20 you need to keep the opposition down for the entire match and can’t relax even for an over. Kings XI have only to blame themselves for losing their 7th match as Bangalore Challengers got one step closer to that semifinal berth.
Bangalore Royal Challengers Innings
Given the power packed batting line up of the Royal Challengers, Kings XI could not relax after scoring 181. The Challengers have always got a good start this season but today was different, Jacques Kallis who is the current Orange cap holder was uncomfortable in his short stay before he nicked one to the keeper giving Srivastava a wicket off his first ball. Manish Pandey looked to be in fine touch but he was unfortunate to be dismissed when KP hit one back at Sharma who failed to hold on to the catch but got a deflection onto the non-striker’s stumps to find Pandey short. For the next 8 overs Kohli and Pieterson got 68 runs and kept their team in the hunt. During this period Kings XI had their chances when Kohli hit a slower ball down the throat of Sreesanth but he not only dropped the catch but let it go through for a boundary. Kohli went on to make 16 more runs before he was sent back by Bipul Sharma.48 runs were required in the last 4 overs. Lee’s 17th over changed the complexion of the game as he leaked 25 runs. Uthappa took a heavy toll as he smashed 2 6’s and a boundary. Uthappa perished after making 22 runs in 8 balls. Pieterson was dropped twice in the 18th over first by Bopara and then by Sangakkara. Pieterson 66(44) hit the winning runs with 5 balls to spare. PHOTOS
Kings XI Punjab Innings
Sangakkara was back after the 1 match ban and he chose to bat first after winning the toss. Mahela sat out of this one as Bopara was back. Marsh who looked good in the last match couldn’t do much as he edged one to dravid off Vinay Kumar. Sangakkara and Bisla kept averaging a boundary an over, and had added 63 runs without too much trouble. Bisla consumed 26 balls for his 28 before he was clean bowled by Kumble. Sangakkara too had to go when he tried pulling a short ball from Steyn and found Kallis. Yuvraj Singh and Bopara picked up the scoring rate. Yuvraj, cheered on by a vociferous home crowd following a prolonged lean patch and rumours of a fallout with his teammates was in a mood to tear apart the bowlers but he was unfortunate to hit a full toss on the leg stump straight to white. Irfan pathan balzed to 16 runs in 4 balls before e gout out in the penultimate delivery of the innings. PHOTOS
