Royal Challengers registered their first win thanks to a wonderfully paced innings from Kallis(Current Orange Cap holder), whirlwind 51 from Robin and a cameo from Manish. Both the teams had lost their opening matches and one of them would end up slumping to their 2nd loss at the end of the game and sadly for Priety Zinta it was her team who despite making 203 were not able to defend it. RCB were out thought, outwitted and outplayed in their first game and had to come back strongly and Boy what a game it turned out to be. It was a home game for RCB and Punjab were looking to breach Bangalore’s fortress if you can call that since RCB has lost 6 of their 7 home matches in IPL1. RCB bowlers were sent on a leather hunt. It was the second instance that the opposition managed to score a 100 against them without losing a wicket. The bowling looked ordinary but thankfully for the RCB their batting which looked out of sorts against KKR came good against Kings XI. PHOTOS
It was almost the same target that Delhi was chasing but it was a comprehensive win today unlike the tense one against the Kings XI. Delhi Daredevils once again delivered a combined effort with the ball to limit Rajasthan Royals to 141 for 6 Barring a brief period of fireworks, Rajasthan Royals had largely to blame themselves for the modest score . When you have Sehwag in the opposition you are always praying that he gets out early but it was not to be. But sadly for Warne and Rajasthan Royals muscled his way to the fastest half-century of this IPL to secure the 2nd consecutive win for Delhi and 2nd loss for RR.
It was the battle of South Giants between Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings but once again it turned out to be a one sided affair as it always has been when these 2 teams have clashed . Before the game started the stats read – DC CSK DC CSK and hence this game was supposed to be DC’s game and it turned out to be that way. Vaas was the hero with the ball and all the big guns of DC fired setting up a huge total of 190.Not to forget the superb display of ground fielding from the Chargers which made the 191 target look like 210.
It’s amazing to see what a win can do to a team. KKR who ended up in 6th and 8th positions in last 2 seasons of IPL have begun their campaign this year with 2 consecutive wins and what is more important to note is that they have beaten the last year ‘s finalists. If it was DC in the tournament opener it was Royal Challengers today who were beaten black and blue. Angelo Mathews once again showed why he is such a good all-rounder. The other day he smashed the DC bowlers around the park and today he followed up with the ball to pin down Royal Challengers. Once the bowlers did their job it was the turn of the openers who batted splendidly to make the job easy for the batsmen to follow. PHOTOS
It was not the usual T20 match that you would expect but nevertheless it turned out to be a nerve wracking game. Gambhir playing his first match as an IPL captain was cool as a cucumber as he guided his team to a straightforward chase with an old-fashioned innings full of sensible strokeplay. Delhi were the firm favourites but T20 is so unpredictable that you just can’t take things granted in this format. Had Pathan taken the catch of Manhas at a crucial moment in the match the result might have well been in favour of Preity Zinta who wore a traditional Punjabi dress.
“I’ve played cricket for 21 years and I have seen Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman against whom I have played as he has murdered attacks and hit them all over the park. But today was the best innings I have ever seen,” No Guesses for who made that comment. Yes the spin wizard Shane Warne showering praise on his team mate Yusuf Pathan who almost won the game single handedly with his ferocious 37 ball 100 which also happens to be the fastest in IPL and 2nd fastest in the history of T20 cricket.
It is that time of the year once again when Movies take a backseat and theaters wear a deserted look and instead people will be glued to their television sets for 45 days while the grounds are jam packed with crazy fans and loyal supporters of their respective franchises. Yes we are talking of IPL which is in its 3rd season and more importantly back in INDIA.IPL boss Lalit Modi sees his baby becoming bigger than the NFL, the NBA, and the English Premier League. Sounds very ambitious and futuristic but hey he might not have a degree from an IIM but he is the right salesman for the right product (IPL) and has a belief in the power of the market.

Cricket is a team game and today we saw just that. On one side you had Jumbo who led from the front for his team, the Royal Challengers but on the other side you had Gilchrist who scored a duck but in the end he had the final laugh as Deccan Chargers were crowned the IPL champions 2009. It was a spirited performance put in by the Royal Challengers who were definitely in the drivers seat half way into the match but the Chargers had saved the best for the last and came up with an all round show to snatch the title from the Challengers. This is IPL (Indian Premeire Leauge) and it was very apt that the Men in Blue won it. Last time too it was the Men in Blue (Rajasthan Royals) and this time it is Deccan Chargers. So what are we looking at next year..Maybe Mumbai Indians: D

What a tournament this has turned out to be. 2 teams which had finished at the bottom last year will now be fighting it out in the finals this year for the coveted trophy. Before the tournament started Delhi followed by Superkings were tipped to be the favourites but both have been outclassed in the semis. In today’s Semifinal Bangalore proved to be too good for the Superkings who were lacklusture in their performance. The Royal Challengers who were branded as a test team last year have won 6 in a row and look good to with the all important 7th one too.
