Chennai Super Kings clinch IPL3

chennnai champions of IPL3Match 60(IPL3 FINAL): Big cheers, chants of Sachin, Sachin reverberated across the ground when Sachin walked onto the field for the toss and 3 hours later the DY Patil stadium was stunned into silence as the men in yellow walked away with the top honours. MS Dhoni’s captaincy overshadowed the bravado of Sachin Tendulkar in the big final on Sunday. With this win MSD has added another feather to his captaincy hat. First he started the turnaround for his team with the bat and then he was spot on with his captaincy against a formidable Mumbai Indians attack. Suresh Raina capitalized on the two dropped catches to score 57 which is the highest in an IPL final. 58 runs were scored in the first 10 and 110 runs came off the last 10 which was where Mumbai Indians lost the match. Had Kieron Pollard come up the order maybe the men in blue would have ended up on the winning side. But it was the Super Kings who came up trumps by 22 runs in what was a cracker of a game.

SuperKings storm into the finals

DOUG BOLLINGERMatch 58(2nd Semi Final) – Chennai Super Kings put up an inspired performance with the ball to not only defend a modest total but instead thrash the defending champions by 38 runs. Chargers had done half the job by restricting the powerful batting line up that Chennai boasted of to only 142 but they still had to complete the other half which was to chase down the score. But unfortunately their foreign stars Gilchrist and Gibbs batted in a manner contrary to their reputation, preferring caution over attack in the Powerplay which resulted in Chargers making their lowest score (23/2) in the first 6 overs. The required rate which was 7 at the start zoomed to 10 at the end of 10 overs as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Deccan’s sharp bowling effort went in vain as their batting crumbled to be bowled out for 104 on a tricky pitch.

Dhoni blitzkrieg blasts Chennai into Semis

MS Dhoni plays a shotMatch 54: Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Dhoni came to the party when his team needed him the most. His 29 ball 54 blitzkrieg took his side to the semi-finals for the 3rd season in a row. He blasted 25 runs in the final 2 overs to remind everyone that he is still one of the best finishers of the game. Kings XI once again failed to defend a big total which has been the story of the season – their batsmen have piled on more runs than all teams except Mumbai Indians, but their bowling has has let them down big time. Having made 192, it was a tough ask for the Super Kings to chase it down but given that they had no other way but to go for it made the innings interesting. It began badly for them as they lost both their openers quickly but Raina and Badrinath got the innings back on track before Dhoni’s onslaught stunned the Kings XI at their home ground Dharamshala.

Gambhir stars for Delhi halting Superkings winning run at home

Delhi Daredevils' skipper Gautam Gambhir in action during his match winning knock against Chennai Super KingsMatch 50: Delhi Daredevils were playing at MA Chidambaran stadium in Chennai but the pitch was similar to the one in Delhi and in that sense they were playing at home away from home except for the soaring temperatures in Chennai which reached 45 tonight and with humidity it must have felt like 50. After dismissing the Super Kings for their lowest score in this season, Delhi began the chase on a disastrous note before Gambhir’s determined knock saved the team from blushes. By virtue of this win Delhi move to the 3rd position and Chennai remain at No 4. Having won 4 games on the trot at home Chennai crowd were disappointed to say the least.

Chargers keep their hopes alive

Ryan Harris takes a catch off his own bowling to send back R Ashwin.Deccan Chargers might have lost 5 games on a trot leaving them to win the rest of their 5 games to make it to the semi finals. Every game is a virtual quarterfinal for them and the Chargers surely know how to do it when under pressure. After having stunned the Royal Challengers at their home ground it was time to get a win at their adopted home ground Nagpur. This time it was Chennai who didn’t look like a team which had made it to the semi finals of the previous 2 editions. They are now in the same position as the Chargers are – to win the rest of their 3 games.

Chennai send Mumbai Indians crashing to their 2nd defeat

Chennai Super Kings team celebrates after taking crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan.Super Kings needed divine help if they had to beat the table leaders and they got that in the form of the extremely hot weather in Chennai which forced Sachin to retire due to dehydration. Once he was off the field Mumbai Indians collapsed losing 6 wickets for 28 runs in 32 balls. As a result they lost the match by 24 runs, only their 2nd in 9 games. With this win Chennai have kept their hopes alive to reach the semi-finals having accumulated 10 points in as many games.

Vijay and Bollinger star in Chennai’s win

Murali Vijay was in murderous mood, taking the Royals bowling to the cleaners.Temperatures were soaring at the city of Chennai but that didn’t stop Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to produce an enthralling contest. The crowd was treated to a run feast on a sleeping beauty. The in-form batsmen Vijay came up with an outstanding century which was studded with 8 boundaries and 11 DLF Maximums to get Chennai to a record score of 246/5. The Rajasthan Royals gave a great chase to come so close thanks to Naman Ojha and Watson but Bollinger on debut was a star performer with the ball for the Super Kings to ensure that CSK got back to winning ways.

Chennai back to winning ways

Murali Vijay plays a shotDesperate times call for desperate measures and surely Chennai Super Kings were in need of something special if they had to end their 4 match losing streak which they did today against the 2nd best team RCB. The super kings like Kings XI have been losing games which they should have comfortably won and interestingly it all began against Kings XI when they were beaten in the super over. However today they delivered their best all-round performance to come on top of RCB. Maybe the 6 day break proved to be too long for their own good.

Uthappa demolishes Chennai

Robin UthappaHe was bought for $800,000 in 2008 auction with the hope that he could demolish the opposition but he couldn’t live up to that reputation in the inaugural version when he played for Mumbai Indians .However this year playing for Bangalore Royal Challengers he has played some amazing innings using his ability to find the boundary with brute power as well as crafty innovation while managing to shift roles when plans have had to be altered. Yes I am talking about Robin Uthappa whose bludgeoning innings of 68 from just 38 balls inspired Royal Challengers Bangalore to an emphatic 36-run victory over Chennai Super Kings.

Hayden and Mongoose bat combo destroy Daredevils

Matthew Hayden leaves the field after bludgeoning 93 off just 43 deliveries. The Mongoose bat made an auspicious debut in the IPL as Hayden bludgeoned the Delhi bowlers for 7 sixes and 9 boundaries making a mockery of the stiff target that Daredevils had set. Hayden’s power packed 93 and stand in captain Raina’s unbeaten 49 meant that Delhi crashed to their 2nd consecutive loss and slipped to 5th place in the points table.
