Match 52: The table toppers Mumbai Indians crushed RCB by 57 runs on their home turf and the big loss meant their run rate took a beating but remained just high enough to make them favourites for the semi final berth. The match was delayed by an hour due to a couple of low-intensity blasts outside the stadium but once the match started the crowd were treated to some power hitting by the Mumbai boys who posted 191 on the board which in the end proved too much for the boys in red.

Match 43: This year’s campaign for KKR has been a topsy-turvy one and with tonight’s loss they are in the same league as DC and CSK. They have to win their last 3 games in order to make it to the semis. KKR were in control for the first 10 overs of their batting but as Ganguly said in his post match conference they played RUBBISH cricket in the last 30 overs giving the boisterous crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium a chance to wave their red flags and celebrate in style.

It was a sea of RED as it has always been at Chinnaswamy stadium but it was the team in BLUE who emerged victorious and silenced the 55,000 odd fans. Suman and Symonds engineered a victory which looked improbable. The chargers were in complete control when they bowled giving away only 92 runs in the first 14 overs but they let the game slip by giving away 92 runs in the rest of the 6 which gave Bangalore a very competitive total. Bangalore were in control giving away 112 runs in the first 14 overs but it took a calm T Suman and an aggressive Andrew Symonds to change the course of the game. With this win Deccan Chargers have kept their chances alive to reach the semi finals.

Chasing 185 the Chargers were rocked early when Uthappa took a brilliant low catch to send Mishra back to the dugout for 9. However Adam Gilchrist scored a quick 30 but as usual once again he gave away his wicket trying to give charge to Kumble who produced a googly and the keeper did the rest. Rohit Sharma too threw his wicket away when he chipped one straight to dale steyn. Suman was promoted to no 3 and he didn’t disappoint his team mates as he got 78 runs from only 57 balls. He anchored the chase all along and Symonds played a brilliant knock of 53 from only 24 balls to give the Chargers a win after 5 loses. PHOTOS Read more... Toss is a crucial factor at Delhi and tonight Gambhir won the toss and decided to bat and it was no surprise who ended up with 2 points after the match. Delhi played exceptionally well to reach 184 and their bowlers defended it comfortably despite the Royals having a glittering batting line-up. With this win Delhi have leapfrogged Bangalore to go second in the table with 12 points from nine games, while Bangalore slipped to third with ten from as many games.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and surely Chennai Super Kings were in need of something special if they had to end their 4 match losing streak which they did today against the 2nd best team RCB. The super kings like Kings XI have been losing games which they should have comfortably won and interestingly it all began against Kings XI when they were beaten in the super over. However today they delivered their best all-round performance to come on top of RCB. Maybe the 6 day break proved to be too long for their own good.

Royal Challengers who were sitting pretty at the top of the table were surprised by Delhi who finally broke their 3 match losing streak to hand Bangalore their first home loss this season. The key to Delhi winning was simple – David Warner came out with all guns blazing and Kedar Jadhav provided the right finish to help Delhi post a stiff target of 183 and the bowlers did their job quite well to restrict the Challengers to 166/9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Jadhav on debut impressed one an all and was awarded the Man of the Match. He couldn’t have asked for a better gift on his birthday which happens to be tomorrow. Read more... After having watched a 200 plus score overhauled the other day it was boring to see a match which lasted only 30.2 overs. It was an early night for the Bangalore crowd. Rajasthan Royals were thrashed royally by the Bangalore Royal Challengers as they were beaten comprehensively by 10 wickets to crash to their 3rd successive defeat in this season. Rajasthan’s batting order collapsed to a paltry 92 thanks to a superlative bowling performance by the men in red not to forget the hatrick by Praveen Kumar which apparently is the first of the season. The openers chased it down with 56 balls to spare to give RCB one of the most comprehensive victories in IPL. Read more... (501 words, 1 image, estimated 2:00 mins reading time)
Royal Challengers registered their first win thanks to a wonderfully paced innings from Kallis(Current Orange Cap holder), whirlwind 51 from Robin and a cameo from Manish. Both the teams had lost their opening matches and one of them would end up slumping to their 2nd loss at the end of the game and sadly for Priety Zinta it was her team who despite making 203 were not able to defend it. RCB were out thought, outwitted and outplayed in their first game and had to come back strongly and Boy what a game it turned out to be. It was a home game for RCB and Punjab were looking to breach Bangalore’s fortress if you can call that since RCB has lost 6 of their 7 home matches in IPL1. RCB bowlers were sent on a leather hunt. It was the second instance that the opposition managed to score a 100 against them without losing a wicket. The bowling looked ordinary but thankfully for the RCB their batting which looked out of sorts against KKR came good against Kings XI. PHOTOS Read more... It’s amazing to see what a win can do to a team. KKR who ended up in 6th and 8th positions in last 2 seasons of IPL have begun their campaign this year with 2 consecutive wins and what is more important to note is that they have beaten the last year ‘s finalists. If it was DC in the tournament opener it was Royal Challengers today who were beaten black and blue. Angelo Mathews once again showed why he is such a good all-rounder. The other day he smashed the DC bowlers around the park and today he followed up with the ball to pin down Royal Challengers. Once the bowlers did their job it was the turn of the openers who batted splendidly to make the job easy for the batsmen to follow. PHOTOS Read more...
