They say catches win matches but what I witnessed today was something that contradicted that notion. Super Kings dropped 4 and still won the game. It was super kings day. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a good start with Hayden and vijay stroking the ball well and they reached 50 in 5 overs. Finally Chargers had something to cheer when they got Hayden. Dhoni promoted himself and he didn’t look the struggling Dhoni we have been seeing until now. He began stroking the ball well especially at the end of the innings. It was a captains innings which helped the team to get to a formidable 178 in 20 overs.

It was the first time that Yuvraj fired not just with the bat but was brilliant with the ball taking the first hatrick of the IPL season and Kings 11 lost. Cricket is not about one man show but a team game. If one man fires and the rest fail it is of no use and it was proved right yet again.Maybe it was a reminder from God for Zinta that if you dont exercise your vote then you and your team will have to suffer 😛

All good things have to come to an end and so did the chargers 4 match winning streak but not without a fight though from the chargers. Sehwag won the toss and put the chargers into bat. For the first in the tournament both the openers got out cheaply to the pacy left armer Nannes. The chargers scored 55 for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs..There was a complete momentum shift after the strategic timeout which saw the powerful Dwayne smith hitting boundaries at will. His knock of 48 from just 28 balls got the chargers 148 in their allotted 20 overs. I thought they were short by 10 to 15 runs.

Who says T20 is all about big score, raining sixes??? Even Low Scoring contests can be exciting ones as it turned out to be in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings 11 Punjab. The match started on time in Capetown which presented a completely different picture. It was bright sunny afternoon compared to the gloomy rainy day yesterday. Kings 11 won the toss and elected to bat. It was not bright thought for them with Karan goel getting run out without facing a ball. Bopara who was the man of the match last time failed this time getting out to Kamran khan who bowled a wonderful spell of 4 overs for just 15 runs and took 2 wickets. It was Sangakara’s 60 and Irfan’s 39 which got Kings 11 to 139 which was below par. It was a great to see the contest between the two Pathan brothers with Irfan getting better of his older bro.

I couldn’t see the match between KKR and Kings 11 Punjab because I was out but watched the highlights. Every one was happy that IPL was being played in South Africe but rain is playing spoilsport in almost all the matches that have been played till now with 2 matches being decided on D/L method and one match totally washed out

It is not often that a world class spinner who has the world record for the most number of wickets is left out of the team. Chennai Super kings didn’t make that blunder again and it paid immediate dividends and Murali picked up the man of the match award. It was one way traffic from ball one…Hayden showed that he has not lost one bit of his batting prowess despite retiring from international cricket. It was a blazing knock from him which set the Bangalore Royal challengers on the back foot and they couldn’t recover from it though they pulled it back a little bit.

The day 2 of IPL turned out to be an exciting one for me as Deccan chargers stunned everyone with their performance, not me though as i always had faith in them..It was just that they didn’t gell well last year and were not sure of themselves but it looks like they have come out strong from last year when they finished last in the standings. If it was Bangalore royal challengers last night it was Deccan Chargers tonight. They looked liked a completely different outfit when they came out to field against Kolkata knight riders. A New Jersey, coach and support staff and the attitude of the players, the most important thing has worked wonders for the team. By the way the new outfit was matching the dark blue clouds. I love the outfit :)It was as if the Rain Gods too were happy not to interrupt the proceedings by not having more showers like what happened earlier in the day.
