Match 58(2nd Semi Final) – Chennai Super Kings put up an inspired performance with the ball to not only defend a modest total but instead thrash the defending champions by 38 runs. Chargers had done half the job by restricting the powerful batting line up that Chennai boasted of to only 142 but they still had to complete the other half which was to chase down the score. But unfortunately their foreign stars Gilchrist and Gibbs batted in a manner contrary to their reputation, preferring caution over attack in the Powerplay which resulted in Chargers making their lowest score (23/2) in the first 6 overs. The required rate which was 7 at the start zoomed to 10 at the end of 10 overs as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Deccan’s sharp bowling effort went in vain as their batting crumbled to be bowled out for 104 on a tricky pitch.
Match 48: Ganguly lashing out at his team after losing to RCB a few days ago certainly didn’t do any good as Kolkata were thrashed by the Super Kings. The man who changed the face of Indian cricket a decade ago has been found wanting when it comes to ideas and with this loss his job is only going to get tougher. If the same show continues in the remaining 2 matches then you can be rest assured the KKR won’t be going into the semis for the 3rd time in IPL. It does not do any justice to the budding talent that they possess.
Deccan Chargers might have lost 5 games on a trot leaving them to win the rest of their 5 games to make it to the semi finals. Every game is a virtual quarterfinal for them and the Chargers surely know how to do it when under pressure. After having stunned the Royal Challengers at their home ground it was time to get a win at their adopted home ground Nagpur. This time it was Chennai who didn’t look like a team which had made it to the semi finals of the previous 2 editions. They are now in the same position as the Chargers are – to win the rest of their 3 games.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and surely Chennai Super Kings were in need of something special if they had to end their 4 match losing streak which they did today against the 2nd best team RCB. The super kings like Kings XI have been losing games which they should have comfortably won and interestingly it all began against Kings XI when they were beaten in the super over. However today they delivered their best all-round performance to come on top of RCB. Maybe the 6 day break proved to be too long for their own good.
Chennai Super Kings Innings
When you have GOD in your side you have nothing to worry. Mumbai Indians rose to the top of the IPL standings thanks to the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar splendid innings of 72 in 52 balls who almost carried his bat through to give his side a 5 wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at their home ground. Dhoni was back but it didn’t make any difference to the Super Kings as they lost their 3rd match in a row.
Mumbai Indians Innings
He was bought for $800,000 in 2008 auction with the hope that he could demolish the opposition but he couldn’t live up to that reputation in the inaugural version when he played for Mumbai Indians .However this year playing for Bangalore Royal Challengers he has played some amazing innings using his ability to find the boundary with brute power as well as crafty innovation while managing to shift roles when plans have had to be altered. Yes I am talking about Robin Uthappa whose bludgeoning innings of 68 from just 38 balls inspired Royal Challengers Bangalore to an emphatic 36-run victory over Chennai Super Kings.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils had already done it and on Sunday it was the turn of Chennai to Showcase their talent : Not just how to lose a match but lose it after managing to get it to Super Over which KKR and DD couldn’t do :D. They scripted their own loss and maybe next time when Priyadarshan(who had come to watch the match) makes a movie he can have his script written by the Chennai team. It would surely be a Box office hit just like how the TRP ratings must have sky rocketed for sure during this game. Kings XI won their first game of this IPL season and Preity Zinta was on cloud 9. It just goes to show T20 is not about flat wickets and 200 plus scores but even low scoring encounters can turn out to be humdingers and nobody is complaining or is anyone?? PHOTOS
