Temperatures were soaring at the city of Chennai but that didn’t stop Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals to produce an enthralling contest. The crowd was treated to a run feast on a sleeping beauty. The in-form batsmen Vijay came up with an outstanding century which was studded with 8 boundaries and 11 DLF Maximums to get Chennai to a record score of 246/5. The Rajasthan Royals gave a great chase to come so close thanks to Naman Ojha and Watson but Bollinger on debut was a star performer with the ball for the Super Kings to ensure that CSK got back to winning ways.
Chennai Super Kings slumped to their 4th straight defeat as the Royals beat them by 16 runs to register their 4th straight win. After having made 177 thanks to a brilliant innings from Ojha who hit 80 from 49, the bowlers from the Royals responded well and survived a late onslaught from Chennai Super Kings to register their 10th win out of 11 matches at home. No wonder they call it a fortress.
Chennai Super Kings Innings
It has been a roller coaster ride for the Rajasthan Royals. After having suffered hat trick of losses in the opening games they have come back strongly to make it 3 wins in a row. Tonight they thrashed the defending champions Deccan Chargers by 8 wickets and also replaced them in points table (3rd). Shane Warne surprised everyone in the first season with his leadership skills and today we could see just why he is rated as one of the better captains if not the best in the tournament. He was brilliant with his choice of bowlers and his men responded superbly in the field by restricting Chargers to a modest 148. Then Pathan took the game away from the chargers as he has always done. His 34 ball 73 knock earned him 4th man of the match award in 5 games that Royals have played the chargers.
It was a clash between two teams placed at the bottom of the IPL standings and Rajasthan Royals came on top of Kings XI Punjab who were comprehensively beaten by 31 runs thanks to the and disciplined bowling effort from the Royals. By virtue of this win they jumped to joint 4th position whereas Kings XI is at the bottom having lost 4 of their 5 games. Though the margin of defeat indicates a dominating show by Rajasthan, Punjab had their chances but they didn’t take them.
Rajasthan Royals finally managed to open their account in the IPL when they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 34 runs. Having lost 3 matches in a row, Shane Warne couldn’t have asked for a better performance from his boys. Although it has to be said that it was a intent-less chase from Kolkata as they gift wrapped the game for the royals.
It was almost the same target that Delhi was chasing but it was a comprehensive win today unlike the tense one against the Kings XI. Delhi Daredevils once again delivered a combined effort with the ball to limit Rajasthan Royals to 141 for 6 Barring a brief period of fireworks, Rajasthan Royals had largely to blame themselves for the modest score . When you have Sehwag in the opposition you are always praying that he gets out early but it was not to be. But sadly for Warne and Rajasthan Royals muscled his way to the fastest half-century of this IPL to secure the 2nd consecutive win for Delhi and 2nd loss for RR.
“I’ve played cricket for 21 years and I have seen Sachin Tendulkar as the best batsman against whom I have played as he has murdered attacks and hit them all over the park. But today was the best innings I have ever seen,” No Guesses for who made that comment. Yes the spin wizard Shane Warne showering praise on his team mate Yusuf Pathan who almost won the game single handedly with his ferocious 37 ball 100 which also happens to be the fastest in IPL and 2nd fastest in the history of T20 cricket.
